Welcome to Athens

Dear Colleagues,
It is our great pleasure to invite you to Athens, Greece, for the Seven Gliomas Surgery Course to be held on October 23–24, 2026.
This intensive two-day course is designed for mid- to senior-level neurosurgical residents and young specialists with a particular interest inneuro-oncology and glioma surgery. Our goal is to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the modern principles and practical aspects of glioma surgery through a combination of didactic lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on cadaveric workshops.
The course will feature an international faculty of leading experts in the field, who will share their experience and insights on state-of-the-art techniques for both awake and asleep brain mapping. Particular emphasis will be placed on the application of functional mapping, strategic planning, and the nuances involved in the surgical management of different glioma subtypes.
Our cadaveric sessions will provide a unique, topology- and network-driven approach to brain mapping. Participants will work on cadaveric hemispheres to correlate mapping paradigms with true cortical–subcortical anatomy based on tumor location. A focused white matter dissection workshop will further highlight the major lateral pathways essential for safe subcortical mapping and optimal onco-functional balance.
By the end of the course, participants will have:
• A clear understanding of the fundamental principles of glioma surgery.
• In-depth knowledge of techniques and tenets for both awake and asleep intraoperative mapping.
• Practical, ready-to-apply insights into case selection, intraoperative decision-making, and tailoring surgical strategiesto individual patients.
• Hands-on experience correlating mapping paradigms with true cortical and subcortical anatomy through cadaveric exploration and white matter dissection.
Beyond its scientific content, the course will offer the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with colleagues from around the world, in the inspiring setting of Athens, a city rich in history and scientific tradition.
We look forward to welcoming you in Athens.
Warm regards,
Lampis STAVRINOU
